Nostalgia

Bumming around for 13 days in Melbourne didn't really help me NOT miss home.
Finally, I get to see my half-finished house, live in it (together with spiders and worms), and just chill out! The garden bit is not quite finished yet, but oh well... it'll be done slowly.

The Kitchen Area - a tat messy, but that's what makes it homely (excuses)

The Fireplace where we spend most of our evenings and nights "nua-ing" / bumming.

The grape vines at the entrance of the house. We have like a million grapes. I think this summer, we'll be earning extra bucks at the market. I think grapes go for $4 a kg. Better still, we can put some in the bath tub, step on it, and make some wine. I promise to wash my feet!

Another picture of the living room - on TV is the show "It's a Mad mad mad mad world". Classic. Think I was about 10 when it was shown on TV.

The TAN household decided that a BBQ on a nice saturday afternoon was the right way to go. Anyway we've spent a fortune on a BBQ pit, and a patio heater. (it's hard cleaning up after a bbq!)...

Dev and Munwah

The cooks at work - Lynette & Sue

Too many cooks spoil the broth.

Jess...

Joy and Jaslyn baking in our big space little room kitchen.

The little orange muffins and icing - mmmm.... yummy.
Joy, where is the recipe!!!

Session 2 cooks - Sue again... and MW.

After a long afternoon pigging out, we had another round at Sofias. The Tangetelline Sofia is soooo good. I miss the pasta back in Melbourne! Huge portions, cheap prices... what more can one ask for?

Joy & Mary

The massiva amount of food. Calamari plate and the pasta - btw, that is ONE serving!

Just the few of us...

So good that you can't let any food go to waste...

Of course deserts were huge too!

Was down at the South Melbourne Market to get Sue some nuts to take back to Singapore. Nuts weren't the highlight. The animals were. So cute!!! Little cows, pigs... etc.

Stopped by Bulleen Art and Garden store to get some plants for the house.

Spent a fortune of a few little plants (quite a few actually). A couple of succulents... pink and purple jellybean plants, a pot of birds of the paradise, some marigolds (very pretty!), violets... can't remember what else. it's all in that little trolley.

Well, the storey goes... Janice is such a clutz. Janice drove the car out of the driveway. Janice drove over the plants. Janice killed the plants before they could be transplanted into the side garden.

There is Joy... trying to save whatever is left of what I ruined.

Breakfast in Melbourne is fabulous. It is one thing I enjoy most about being in melbourne. There're all these cool breakkie places to go to. Staying in the suburbs made me venture out into different places.
One of which was the Village Cafe in Balwyn. Thumbs DOWN! The Age papers give it such a good review, but sadly, every dish failed to meet any standards or whatsoever. Except for presentation.

L-R: French Toast with Strawberry Compote, Berry Hotcakes, Big Breakfast, Eggs Benedict.
The frenchtoast was too soggy! It became chewy. Hotcakes not fluffy enough, Bacon on big breakfast too oily and not crispy enough, eggs benedict had too little Hollandaise sauce, and eggs were over poached! They went wrong on the coffees too! Too watery!

Replete was heaps better. It's along Barkers Road, next to the 7 Eleven petrol station (Close to MLC)

Coffee was the best. That's the way a good coffee should be done. The Corn fritters were so yummy. Nice cozy little shop, but too few sitting space. Go early, avoid the mums with their prams.

Boathouse @ Studley Park. That's the perfect location for breakfast. Well, the cafe does do cooked breakfast, but there's an area downstairs that do quick breakkie takeaways.

Food there is so-so. It's not all that good, but not bad either. But the view makes it all up. Salmon and Scramble Eggs Bagel was good, but needed a tat more salt.

The drive along Yarra Bend Road to breakfast.

The City of four seasons in a day - Melbourne. Here's an example.

This picture taken at 1230pm at Spencer Street Station on a nice sunny (24-25 degrees)wednesday afternoon.

Cold, freezing, dreadful and rainy just about half hour later.

Celebrated Joy's Birthday also. Such a cliche when the message on your birthday cake reads "Happy Birthday Joy". Jeremy and I got Sue to tell the restaurant to put a different message on the cake... I was hoping for something like "Thanks Joy for your birthday dinner treat". Instead, she got them to write the message "Welcome to 1/4 Life Joy". Mmmmmm.... that sounded sooo strange! And what is 1/4 life?!? Well well, we have different sense of humour I suppose!

Happy Birthday Joy (cliche...) and THanks for the dinner treat - but remember to pay Sue the money! (yes, joy's credit card didn't work... how convenient!)

Oh Oh... we had dinner at the Conservatory at Crown. Our brilliant Birthday girl decided to steal a fruit tart from the buffet table (because the fruit tart was really yummy - what the @$!*#) and put it in the box together with the complimentary birthday cake.

As we walked out of the restaurant, my clever brother decided to drop the box of cake. and... SPLAT. the fruit tart rolled out. How embarassing. Jeremy and I literally dived down to hide the tart (no, we didn't really care about the cake). but the strawberry on top of the tart had decided to fly a little further. Oh well... you can imagine what happened.

That's the tart that turned turtle, and the cake that fell on the floor.

Not happy... Haha... Hilarious...

Pancake Parlour is just around the corner from where we live. Naturally, that became a frequent hang out place since it is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day!

There's this distorted mirror that Nic, Vicki and I were playing around with. Haha.. feels like i'm back in Primary school

The chocolate strawberry jubilee there is good!

Had Benny's birthday drinks after. Happy Birthday Benny!! Got to catch up with Phoung, Jess and Simon too.

There's my friend David Tan... who is going to Perth. Bye!!

Did the last dash to Queen Vic Market before rushing home...

Ahhhh.... I miss Melbourne! So much!! What to do??

JT goes home

Janice is back in Melbourne... (this sounds so much like facebook). But I like it.

Anyway, I'm back from 2nd to 14th October. I successfully gotten rid of my old lousy Samsung phone after a long time... It decided to die on me one day. Wheee.... Good reason for me to not be such a tight arse and get a nice sleek little phone.

In the process, I lost a lot of mobile phone numbers. So if I don't call you, and if you're reading this... CALL ME! same number, different place (not at southbank any more!)

So good to be back... but strangely it doesn't feel like home anymore... I'm a tourist... OR? well.. it's just one of those confused-and-cannot-make-my-mind-up days.
